Weybridge, UK — July 2026 FirePro UK Ltd today announced the release of a new industry white paper authored by Managing Director Tony Hanley, a leading figure in UK fire engineering with more than 40 years of active experience. The paper, “Considerations for the Extended Lifecycle and/or Replacement of Obsolete or Aged Pressurised Fire Suppression Gas Systems,” provides a detailed examination of the growing challenges associated with legacy FM200, CO₂ and similar pressurised gaseous fire suppression systems.
Drawing on decades of operational insight, Hanley highlights the increasing lifecycle pressures facing end users, including hydrostatic test failures, pipework degradation, rising refill costs, tightening environmental regulations, and declining reliability. The paper notes: “Older cylinders may often fail the test, making them noncompliant and requiring replacement,” and emphasises that enclosure integrity — essential for gas-based systems — becomes progressively harder to maintain as buildings age and evolve.
The publication also outlines how FirePro condensed aerosol technology offers a modern, compliant, and cost-effective alternative. Unlike traditional gas systems, FirePro does not rely on room pressurisation or gas concentration to extinguish fire. Instead, it uses a solid-state, non-pressurised generator that chemically interrupts combustion. This approach eliminates the need for cylinders, pipework, hydrostatic testing, refills, and room integrity assessments, while delivering a certified 15-year lifecycle and significantly reduced maintenance costs.
Hanley states that FirePro’s characteristics make it particularly suitable for retrofit environments, older buildings, and mission-critical spaces where maintaining airtightness is impractical. The paper further highlights FirePro’s environmental advantages, including negligible GWP, absence of PFAS/CFCs, and full compliance with BS/EN 15276 safety requirements.
