LPCB and Ciqurix spark a new era in flame detection

Loss Prevention C e rtification Board (LPCB), part of BRE Group has awarded the first-ever certificate under the new LPS 1976 Video Flame Detection Standard to Ciqurix Ltd – developers of intelligent Video Flame Detector (VFD) technology. The certification marks a new era in video-based fire detection, representing a breakthrough for both LPCB and Ciqurix in validating a new generation of systems designed for the world’s most complex environments.

VFDs are transforming how industries detect and respond to fires. Using advanced camera systems and analytical algorithms, these detectors identify flames in real time providing earlier, more reliable warning in large or open spaces where smoke or heat would take longer to reach a detector on the ceiling. Unlike traditional fire detectors they provide live video footage for early identification of the fire and its subsequent development, supporting appropriate intervention.

VFDs are particularly suited to challenging environments such as aircraft hangars, oil rigs, waste processing facilities, tunnels and factories, where early detection can prevent catastrophic damage. Until now, there has been no robust, research-based standard to validate the efficacy of this technology. LPS 1976 Video Flame Detection Standard fills that gap, providing the first comprehensive standard for evaluating performance, reliability and false alarm resilience.

The new standard is the result of years of collaborative research between LPCB, the Fire Industry Association (FIA), and world leading manufacturers.
