Two leading industry figures, supported by subject matter experts, have combined their experience and insight to deliver a ground-breaking training course – ‘Building Safety Bill: Essential Understanding – detailed Insights and Impacts’. Russ Timpson is a Chartered Fire Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers. Russ has been the organiser of the Tall Building Fire Safety Network (TBFSN) since 2009.
Anthony Taylor is highly experienced in safety relating to property management and has significant insight into the thinking behind the relevant management sections in the draft bill. Anthony continues to work with others in the implementation of Dame Judith Hackitt’s recommendations, and he will welcome feedback from those attending the course. With many years of property/FM management combined with risk consultancy, building resilience and health and safety, Anthony brings important and informed insight to the course.
Using expert knowledge to introduce and provide the urgent understanding with insight into the aims of the Bill, improving culture and competence in the industry, with specific focus on the proposed roles of ‘Accountable Persons’ and ‘Building Safety Managers’ in this industry redefining building safety legislation.
As an Approved Centre for Skills for Justice (SFJ), we will be working to deliver a certificated course. SFJ deliver workforce and organisational development; working with organisations, both public and private, to increase productivity and quality of essential services. TBFSN became a SFJ approved centre in December 2020.
Anthony Taylor commented “We know that a lot of people tasked with the roles of ‘Accountable Person’ and of ‘Building Safety Manager’, will be wondering what’s involved and whether they have the right competencies. Russ and I developed this introductory course to help answer these vital questions”. The course will be delivered initially remotely via Microsoft Teams due to Covid restrictions. “We took time to map out the essential information we felt was vital as learning outcomes for the course. There is a lot to cover” added Russ Timpson.
The course is delivered over 5 consecutive days. Learning outcomes:
- Insights into the new legislation’s aims and objectives using case studies
- Identifying Accountable Persons and Building Safety Managers, exploring their relationships and these key roles for individuals and organisations.
- Explanations of the expected ‘Golden Thread’, ‘Gateways’, ‘Tenant Engagement’ the Building Risk Assessment and the subsequent Building Safety Case requirements and contents
- Understanding of the Building Safety Bill, changes to the RRO and CDM and their regulatory interdependence and timescales for the Law’s implementation
- Introduction to the predicted skills, knowledge experience and behaviours (SKEB) required to gain the proposed competencies for the ‘Building Safety Manager’ Role.
