Sprinkler products support changes to Australia’s new residential building codes
Johnson Controls has received WaterMark certification for four of its Tyco® Series LFII residential sprinkler models. The move is in response to recent revisions made by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) that require WaterMark certified fire sprinklers in new multi-story Class 2 and Class 3 residential buildings greater than three stories and less than 25 meters in height. This includes buildings such as boarding houses, hostels, schools, hospitals, retirement communities, correctional facilities and more.
WaterMark certification confirms the Tyco Series LFII residential sprinklers are designed to effectively prevent back contamination to the main water supply. To receive certification, products are put through an extensive testing process to ensure they are authorized for use in a plumbing or drainage installation within a residential building.
The WaterMark certified sprinklers include:
- Tyco LFII (TY2234) 4.9 K-factor Pendent Sprinkler
- Tyco LFII (TY1334) 4.2 K-factor Horizontal Sidewall Sprinkler
- Tyco LFII (TY2334) 4.4 K-factor Horizontal Sidewall Sprinkler
- Tyco LFII (TY3596) 4.9 K-factor Concealed Pendent Sprinkler

The new fire protection requirements for Class 2 and Class 3 buildings also allow, in some cases, for the removal of other active and passive fire safety features that are currently required. This can lead to an overall savings in construction costs, while increasing the life safety of these buildings.
