The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) has introduced its first female International President (IP), Hayley Burgess, in its 105-year history, signifying the organisation’s dedication to equality and diversity.
Hayley’s appointment as IP is a historic moment in the institution’s history. This milestone is not only a testament to Hayley’s exceptional leadership but also a poignant moment reflective of the IFE’s unwavering dedication to equity and diversity.
Hayley brings a wealth of expertise to her new role, spending the last decade working as a Principal Fire Safety Consultant in the private consultancy sector. Specialising in social care environments, Hayley navigates clients through rigorous fire safety standards and contributes to fire strategy designs across the built environment.
Hayley’s installation as International President took place during the IFE’s 100th AGM on Tuesday 17th October 2023. The transition of leadership was facilitated by former International President, Dr Peter Wilkinson. We will soon make a recording of the AGM available for IFE members to watch via MyIFE. Commenting on becoming IP, Hayley said: “I am both honoured and humbled to have been elected as International President of the IFE and being the first female to do so is just incredible.
“To represent the IFE in an international capacity and to work with more of our outstanding volunteers is something I’m really looking forward to.” “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Peter Wilkinson, my predecessor, for his remarkable contributions; I look forward to stepping into his shoes.”
