Fire and rescue personnel and industrial brigades from around the world are invited to this year’s free-to-attend Emergency Services Show. Returning to Hall 5 at the NEC, Birmingham, UK from 20th to 21st September 2017, the growing event gives visitors access to the very best expertise, training, technology, kit and support networks to prepare for future incidents including terrorist attacks, road traffic accidents and natural disasters.
Recognising the growing interest from abroad in the British fire protection and fire safety excellence, The Emergency Services Show has this year secured the support of the Joint International Fire Board (JIFB) and will work closely with them to develop overseas opportunities. Dave Smith, Fire Industry Association (FIA) Export Manager, says: “Our presence at The Emergency Services Show this year not only increases our visibility domestically but enables us to act as a focal point for overseas buyers visiting the show, highlighting to them the full range of first class goods and services we have to offer and maximising the value of their visit to the UK.”
Learning Opportunities
In The Learning Zone, fire and rescue services and partner agencies will share their experiences of responding to real incidents including the recent gas explosion in Wirral (North West England) which left 34 wounded and destroyed several buildings. Terrorism, traffic incidents, urban SAR and mass gatherings are among some of the other topics which will be covered in this theatre.
Free seminar programmes covering ICT and innovations are also being developed including a presentation on drones and stair-climbing robots from the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority’s centre for Remote Applications in Challenging Environments. Other sessions will cover solutions for fully integrating control rooms and reducing high demand on blue light services from local residents through education and intervention.
Meanwhile a new seminar theatre dedicated to health and wellbeing will include an update on the blue light wellbeing framework for all emergency services being developed by The College of Policing in conjunction with Public Health England.
Meet with Leading Suppliers
Around the indoor and outdoor exhibition visitors will be able to see and handle the latest kit and discuss their needs with over 400 suppliers. In the networking hub of the show, The Collaboration Zone, over 80 voluntary groups, charities and NGOs will be sharing details of the support they offer. The British Red Cross for example will be on hand to talk about an exciting new nationwide volunteer recruitment campaign launching later this year, to sign up a taskforce of volunteers available to respond during a major emergency in their community.
Live Demonstrations
Many exhibitors will be demonstrating solutions and technology on their stands and water rescue demonstrations will take place on the Pendigo Lake outside the exhibition hall.
Within a new Road Safety feature on the exhibition floor, teams of firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) will compete with other brigades across the UK to extricate casualties from two car wreckages using the latest kit and rescue techniques. A Medical and Trauma Challenge will also take place in an “immersive environment” tent, with realistic make-up and prosthetics adding to the authenticity of the casualties. WMFS Road Casualty Reduction Team and Central Motorway Police Group will be offering road and motorway safety advice and there will be a presentation from an emergency services blue light response driving instructor.
