Quelfire’s QuelStop Intumescent HPE Graphite Sealant is a high-expansion intumescent acrylic-based graphic sealant used to provide a fire-rated linear joint or gap seal and to maintain the fire rating of walls and floors where they have been penetrated by services. It is suitable for use in flexible walls, rigid walls and floors, QuelStop Fire Batts, linear joints up to 20mm wide, and for use around cables, cable bunches, cable trays and cable ladders as well as plastic pipes and insulated non-combustible pipes.
Providing up to four hours’ fire protection, the QuelStop Intumescent HPE Graphite Sealant has been fire tested with all the commonly used plastic pipes and complies with the requirements of BS EN 1366-3:2009.
Seal of approval
As different CPVC products may vary slightly in chemical composition and may react differently with accompanying construction products under various circumstances, QuelStop Intumescent HPE Graphite Sealant has been tested for chemical compatibility and is approved by the two leading CPVC sprinkler-piping-system manufacturers. This makes the product one of very few that are approved by both manufacturers.
Lubrizol approved / FBC™ System Compatible
To qualify for inclusion in Lubrizol’s FBC™ System Compatible program, products must undertake additional testing and their manufacturing facilities are audited by a third-party lab. FBC™ System Compatible indicates that QuelStop Intumescent HPE Graphite Sealant has been tested and is monitored on an ongoing basis, to assure its chemical compatibility with FlowGuard Gold®, BlazeMaster® and Corzan® pipe and fittings. Spears® approved
The QuelStop Intumescent HPE Graphite Sealant has now also been tested and evaluated by Spears® for acceptable use with Spears® CPVC Products and has shown no adverse CPVC compatibility issues when installed and utilised as intended. The compatibility applies to FlameGuard® CPVC fire-sprinkler products, LabWaste® CPVC corrosive-waste drainage system and EverTuff® CPVC CTS plumbing system.
One-stop shop system
The QuelStop HPE Intumescent Graphite Sealant is part of the QuelStop Firestopping System, Quelfire’s ‘one-stop shop’ system that comprises a number of high-quality products, providing an ideal overall solution for firestopping mechanical and electrical service penetrations. Together the products have been rigorously tested as a complete system and come with Quelfire’s expert technical service. They work seamlessly to retain the integrity of fire compartments while also saving time and labour costs on site.
Suitable for a wide range of plastic pipe types and sizes
There is a common myth within the construction industry that pipes smaller than 40mm don’t need firestopping where they penetrate fire compartment walls and floors. With years of fire-testing experience, Quelfire know that additional firestopping elements are required to maintain the fire rating of walls and floors, no matter how small the penetrating service – and therefore, a suitable firestop should always be installed.
The QuelStop Intumescent HPE Graphite Sealant is a universal product and has been developed and tested with small service penetrations in mind. However, the scope of application is not limited to this as the product can also be used to firestop plastic pipes up to 125mm in diameter. The scope of application includes installation within the thickness of the plasterboard, within the concrete floor slab and also installation within the company’s own QuelStop Fire Batt.
