New research is seeking the views of former members of fire and rescue services in England about the handling of allegations of misconduct.
His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), the independent inspectorate for fire services, wants to hear from former members of staff who left a service in England within the last five years about their own personal experiences of the misconduct process.
Crest Advisory, who have been commissioned to carry out the research, are inviting former staff members to discuss their personal experiences of the misconduct process in an interview with their specialist team.
The research follows HMICFRS ‘Values and Culture in Fire and Rescue Services’ report, which found examples of racist, homophobic and misogynistic behaviour in a quarter of fire and rescue services in England, with such behaviour often excused as banter.
The findings of the research will contribute to the evidence base of a new inspection on the handling of misconduct within fire and rescue services, which was commissioned by the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman.
The inspection will make recommendations to strengthen and improve the misconduct system across the 44 fire and rescue services in England.
