- As part of Hertfordshire County Council’s Herts County Show pitch, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s new fire puppy Loki will be making a star appearance
- The fire service will also be bringing a fire engine and host of other firefighting equipment, including kit and a smokehouse, for families to enjoy and learn potentially lifesaving fire-safety facts and information
- They will operate alongside Hertfordshire County Council’s pop-up, reuse shop and upcycling hub, as part of the council’s theme this year of a cleaner, greener, healthier Hertfordshire
He may have only been with the fire service for a few months, but Loki the fire puppy is already enjoying his new, local celebrity status.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s latest recruit, who joined crews in February this year as an apprentice fire investigation dog, is looking forward to meeting fans at the upcoming Herts County Show this weekend (28–29 May), taking place at The Showground in Redbourn. Loki will be at the Hertfordshire County Council site with his mentor Reqs – who has been working as a fire dog for the service for over ten years – and their handler Nikki, from 12pm on the Sunday.
Visitors will also be able to explore and get pictures on a real-life fire engine, try on fire kit and walk through a smoke house, while learning about potential fire dangers in the home, how to avoid them and what do in an emergency, at the county council’s site on Main Drive.
The activities will run alongside Hertfordshire County Council’s pop-up reuse shop and upcycling hub, where visitors can get inspiration for their own eco-friendly, home restoration projects, plus buy quality homeware that would have otherwise been sent for disposal, at bargain prices.
Councillor Terry Douris, Executive Member for Education, Libraries and Lifelong Learning and Localism, said: ‘I don’t doubt Loki will melt many hearts at the Herts County Show and make a brilliant addition to the council’s site. I hope as many visitors as possible will take the opportunity to come and say hello to him, and also check out our other interactive firefighting activities. Not only are they fun but will also help people of every age learn potentially life-saving fire safety facts and information.
