In this role, Kevin will provide valuable advice and assistance to the board and directors of MDM Publishing, helping them to identify and acquire high-quality editorial content for the industrial fire safety sector across their leading fire industry journals and websites. MDM Publishing Ltd is excited to welcome Kevin to their Editorial Advisory Board and looks forward to his valuable contributions to their publications.
Kevin is a chartered fire engineer with 43 years of experience working in a variety of high-hazard industries in 42 countries, including oil and gas, petrochemicals, and agrochemicals. He holds an honours degree in Fire Engineering, and for the past 35 years, he has specialised in fire hazard management roles. Kevin possesses expertise in all aspects of fire hazard management, including fire prevention, detection, and protection, as well as senior operational roles in fire and rescue and emergency response.
Kevin has a proven track record of developing and implementing fire protection solutions while ensuring compliance with statutory and legislative requirements on a national and international basis. He frequently interfaces with regulatory authorities and blue light services on regulation and certification issues, and he has a broad knowledge of other engineering competencies. Kevin has a wide network of peers in the fire and emergency fields and is a trained Process Plant Technician with operational experience in running high-hazard plants and in-depth knowledge of process safety management.
He has held several leadership roles throughout his career, including Global Head of Fire Hazard Management as Group Fire Advisor for BP International Ltd, Engineering Technical Manager with SembCorp Industries Pty and Deputy Fire Chief of Imperial Chemical Industries. He has attended and managed many major industrial emergencies in UK and overseas, requested by the office of the Deputy Prime Minister to deploy and lead an Industrial fire team at the Buncefield Multiple Tank Explosion and Fire in the UK in 2005 as an example.
For over 20 years, Kevin has served on many industry codes and standards-making bodies such as NFPA, API, Energy Institute, and ECITB, he helped guide the LASTFIRE program in his capacity as steering panel member until 2021 and was an executive director of JOIFF before leaving to set up FEATHER International Ltd with Randy Fletcher (ex BP crisis management Lead). He owns and operates an independent consultancy Kevin D Westwood Associates Limited specialising in all aspects of Fire Hazard Management. He has expertise in drone operations and is currently consulting in that capacity also.
