Kussmaul Electronics Co., Inc. was founded in September 1967 in the USA by Ernest A. Kussmaul. Most of the products were developed from customers looking for a solution to a problem and that is how the first product was released – a station mounted battery charger, eventually becoming the first of the On-Board Charger product line.
In the 1980s, the Auto Eject was created. It is still today one of the company’s biggest sellers. The Auto Eject automatically disconnects the power line (shore line) and the Air Eject (the air line) from a vehicle when it is started. The Auto Eject product line is always growing, advancing and adding new technologies and features so it can also be used internationally with other AC and DC voltages. An example of this is the Super Auto Eject, an enclosed unit with an automatic AC line interrupt, which is installed and serviced from the inside of the vehicle. When it is accessorised with the new optional EZ mount plate, it can also be installed from the outside. In addition, the Super Trailer Auto Eject discharges the plug from a trailer shore power line upon depressing the brake pedal.
The Super 30 Auto Eject Air/Electric has automatic Anti-Arc capabilities, and mounts from outside the vehicle with the included mounting plate. This unit ejects the plug from the shore power and the air line on engine start, utilising one of the pin placements for the air connection. The Super 16 Auto Eject, for use in Europe and other international applications, is 16 amp/250 volts, comes with a plug detector, automatic Anti-Arc and magnetic WP cover, and mounts in the inside of the vehicle.

The Auto Eject is a patented technology and registered trademark of Kussmaul Electronics. It has proven to be the leader in the shore power ejector market due to its extreme durability, with units in the field working for over 20 years after installation. Sales in the hundreds of thousands of units since the 1980s support its reputation.
Always recognising a need for a completely automatic battery charger that would be reliable, rugged and dependable as well as economical, the company designed a complete line of battery chargers such as the 80 LPC, 1000 PLC, 2000 PLC and the new 40 PLC, which offers lighter weight, a small low profile and clean output while causing no interference with radios and other mobile voltage configurations.
Each year new products are designed and developed. Some of the new products are the new Auto Eject Covers developed for emergency vehicles that incorporate Auto Eject and Indicator in one product. Built for severe duty, these Auto Eject covers are sealed against the elements. Its lid, which opens 180°, allows the user more variability to plug in the shore line. They are available with a digital display or bar graph.
Kussmaul continues to provide products for emergency vehicles, specialty vehicles and ambulances with four core values: Integrity by operating with honesty and undivided principles; Quality and Durability in our products, supported by the years of use of each unit sold; and Service that is provided to the customers 24/7 though a 100% customer service compliance and next day repairs/delivery.
