Fire doors are a legal requirement in all non-domestic properties, including commercial premises and public buildings, as well as blocks of flats and houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs). Under the Fire Safety Act 2021 and Regulations 2022 – introduced to strengthen the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 following the Grenfell Tower tragedy and Hatton Enquiry – formal regulations now govern the guidelines detailing the installation and performance of fire doors.
The new legislation requires responsible parties to undertake more regular inspections and maintenance of their building’s fire doors to ensure ongoing compliance with the latest British standards.
