Sheep gets stuck at top of 60ft waterfall in Cumbria
RSPCA and fire officers worked together to rescue a sheep from a precarious position – atop a waterfall in Cumbria.
A member of the public was walking in The Falls, Ambleside, on 15 October when they spotted the sheep perched on the mossy rocks at the riverside, just at the top of the 60ft drop.
RSPCA animal welfare officer Nick Green attended the site along with colleague animal collection officer Robyn Morris and a crew from the fire and rescue service.
Nick said: “The ewe was in a precarious position right at the top of the waterfall. There was a 60ft drop and the rocks she was standing on were all covered in moss and looked quite slippery. She was in a perilous situation.
“This was a risky rescue so we had to move carefully so as not to fall and injure ourselves or spook her.
“Thankfully, we were able to climb down to her using ropes and managed to get hold of her and lift her up to safety.
“She was checked over and, luckily, wasn’t injured so we returned her to her field.”
