RSPCA inspector Sara Jordan was called to a field in Dunford Bridge, near Sheffield, on 15 May to the stranded lamb.
She said: “Members of the public had amazingly spotted the little lamb stuck on a tiny ledge just below the cliff edge crying for mum.
“The sheep’s field sloped down to the rocky cliff and mum was waiting nearby.
“The cliff was jagged with rocks and dropped around 20ft down to water below so the lamb was in a really perilous position and couldn’t have got back up to the field on his own.”
Sara wasn’t able to launch a rescue herself so called in help from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service’s rope team.
“They managed to abseil over the lip of the cliff just a few feet down to the poor little lamb and grab hold of him before winching him back up to the field and reunite him with his mum,”
Sara added.
“I checked him over and, thankfully, he wasn’t injured from his fall. He was very, very lucky. It was lovely to see him toddling off across the grass with his mum.”
