Firefighters across the North West of England and Northern Ireland will soon be sporting brand new Xenon technical rescue kit supplied by Ballyclare, a leading UK designer and manufacturer of firefighter PPE.
The kit has been supplied as part of a major new contract bringing together fire and rescue services (FRSs) from Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland. Representing more than 5,800 firefighters between them, the FRSs collaborated on a joint initiative to procure specialist kit for non-structural rescue operations, such as road traffic collisions, medical emergencies and natural disasters.
Following a rigorous tender process last year involving practical user trials, Ballyclare was selected as the preferred supplier, with its Xenon technical rescue kit hitting the mark for quality, comfort and best value.
Lightweight and breathable, the new Xenon technical rescue jacket and trouser ensemble is fully certified to a number of international, European and British standards including BS EN 16689 for protective clothing for technical rescue, EN ISO 15384 for wildland firefighter clothing, and EN ISO 20471 for high-visibility clothing. It features highly-specialist fabrics and innovative sports styling to keep firefighters both protected and comfortable on the job. The fabric is inherently flame retardant and resistant to repeated washing, offering durable, waterproof protection from blood pathogens, chemicals and particulates. This particular version of the Xenon kit was enhanced to suit the specific requirements of the tender, including the selection of a bright yellow outer fabric for heightened visibility at road traffic incidents.
The North West fire and rescue services are already familiar with the Ballyclare Xenon range, as long-standing customers of Xenon structural kit, and having worn a previous version of the Xenon technical rescue jacket.
