NCEC is proud to be the supporting partner of the virtual Fire Safety Forum 2021 – a series of six virtual best-practice conferences presented by the Institution of Fire Engineers Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) United Arab Emirates (UAE) Branch. Under the theme of ‘A Global Approach to Fire & Life Safety’, the panels will consist of international fire and safety experts who will review industry sectors for advancement and technical insights into safety.
The full programme comprises six weeks of continuous industry dialogues and unlimited networking. NCEC will be exhibiting from 3 March until 7 April across the exciting CPD-accredited events and is especially pleased to be delivering the two hazardous materials (hazmat) sessions described below.
Hazmat scientific support: training and incident advice

Speaker: Ed Sullivan, Hazmat Academy Manager, NCEC
In this session, Ed will give an overview of international best practice and the growing trends in hazmat training. Focusing on the need for virtual delivery – in light of coronavirus (Covid-19), and the growing pressure to reduce the number of officers, availability of those on duty and training budgets – Ed will discuss why it is essential to maintain standards and qualifications, and to increase the frequency of expert training to reduce skill fade. He will also touch on how specialists can and should make use of globally available scientific expert support, even after receiving expert training.
The future of hazmat

Speaker: Dr Nigel Blumire, Training Product Manager, NCEC and Hazardous Materials Commission Secretary, International Association of Fire and Rescue Services (CTIF)
In his presentation, Nigel will introduce the role of CTIF and the HazMat Commission, with a focus on hazmat and CBRNE tactics and knowledge exchange. The session will then explore the future of hazmat incidents from around the world and the role of technology to help resolve them safely. He will also discuss how these modern technologies are complementary to current knowledge and experience.
