It has been reported this week that the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, is urging cabinet ministers in charge of a spending department to prioritise British suppliers wherever possible, and particularly in sectors tied to national resilience and security.
Britannia Fire, the UK’s leading fire extinguisher manufacturer, welcomes the Government’s renewed focus on supporting British industry and strengthening domestic supply chains. Managing Director Andy Spence, comments:
“As a UK-based manufacturer and innovator in fire safety technology, we understand the value of investing in British expertise, engineering, and production capability. Supporting homegrown businesses not only helps protect skilled jobs and boosts productivity, but also improves supply chain resilience, product accountability, and long-term national security.
“We also believe that sourcing and manufacturing within the UK can play an important role in reducing environmental impact. Shorter supply chains, lower transport emissions and investment in sustainable British manufacturing all contribute towards the UK’s wider net zero and sustainability ambitions. At Britannia Fire, we remain committed to developing environmentally responsible fire safety solutions while supporting UK industry and innovation.
“Britain has a strong heritage of engineering and manufacturing excellence, and we believe UK companies should be encouraged to compete and succeed on quality, innovation, sustainability and reliability.
“We look forward to seeing procurement and industrial policy continue to recognise the importance of trusted British suppliers across critical infrastructure and safety-related industries.”
